WADENA, Minn.– The Wadena Police Department issued a scam alert Tuesday for city residents after numerous reports of phone scams in the area.

WPD officials have received complaints from Wadena citizens who are now receiving the similar scam.

“The Wadena Police Department has received complaints about an automated calling system to citizens threatening to shut off electricity within 30 minutes unless he or she pays by credit card,” said WPD spokesperson Sharon Roberts via a release. “The City of Wadena is not calling trying to collect payments at this time.”

Officials with the WDP are urging citizens to share this information with your senior friends and family about this fraudulent scam and to screen their calls.

If you have any questions regarding your bill, you can call 218-631-7707 before you give any information over the phone.
