Stub’s Restaurant in Battle Lake, a beloved local landmark for over 55 years, which caught in a fire on Monday night is feared to be a total loss.

Firefighters from Battle Lake and surrounding communities were called to the scene at 9:25 p.m. Due to falling ceilings and dangerous conditions, crews from eight neighboring fire departments had to battle the blaze from outside. As of Tuesday morning, the roof had partially collapsed, and the cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Minnesota State Fire Marshal’s Office. No injuries were reported during the blaze.

Established in 1968 by Stub Digre, the restaurant became a well-known supper club after its official opening in 1969. It changed ownership several times, most recently being sold just over a year ago for $725,000. Despite multiple renovations over the years, including a major one in 2010, the restaurant maintained its status as a favorite destination for locals and visitors alike.

The Battle Lake Fire and Police Departments were assisted by the Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Office, Fergus Falls Fire, Perham Fire, Ottertail Fire, Underwood Fire, Vining Fire, Dalton Fire, and Ashby Fire.
