Sebeka Public School District Honors Student by Changing Mascot Colors

Greyson Byman

Sebeka, Minn (KWAD) – The Sebeka Public School District is paying tribute to 12-year-old Greyson Byman, a beloved student who passed away on Thursday, September 26th, after an 18-month battle with brain cancer. In his memory, the school district announced they will be changing the school mascot colors to gray, reflecting the strength and courage Greyson embodied throughout his life.

The district expressed their admiration for Greyson, describing him as “kind and brave” and someone who represented the true spirit of a Trojan. “We cherish every memory we got with Grey, and he will forever be in our hearts,” the school shared in a heartfelt statement.

Greyson, who was active in swimming and football, is remembered as a vibrant and resilient boy. “Greyson fought a courageous battle against cancer, and his strength and resilience throughout this journey touched the lives of everyone who knew him,” wrote Superintendent Dave Kerkvliet.

A visitation for Greyson will take place on Friday, October 4th, from 4 to 8 PM, with a memorial service at 7 PM. The funeral service will be held the following day, Saturday, October 5th, at 11 AM, with an additional visitation one hour prior. Both services will be held at the Laestadian Lutheran Church in Menahga.

In addition, a GoFundMe has been established to support the Byman family during this difficult time.
