SEBEKA, Minn.– History was made by Wadena-Deer Creek senior boys basketball guard Peyton Church in Sebeka Tuesday night as he became the all time scoring leader in Wolverine basketball history!
Church needed to score 15 points to tie the program record previously held by former Wolverine Noah Ross. Church went to the free throw line early in the second half with 14 points to shoot a pair of free throws. The first free throw to tie the record went it. Then Church followed it up by swishing the second shot to become the WDC scoring champion. WDC defeated the Sebeka 78-55.
The all-time record is now owned by Church with his 1,414 career points. Ross sits now second all-time with 1,413 career points.
The Wolverines are continuing another strong season. Currently, they are the no. 6 seed in the Section 8AA race with a 16-8 overall record. WDC will finish the regular season on the road against Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton on Feb. 29 and in Parkers Prairie against the Panthers on March 1.
