In a tragic development, the Lakes Area Vineyard Church of Detroit Lakes has announced the passing of local missionary Beau Shroyer, who was killed in an act of violence on Friday, October 25, while serving in Angola, Africa. Beau was a devoted missionary working under SIM-USA, a Christian missionary organization, bringing spiritual support to communities abroad.
The news was confirmed by Mark Bosscher, Chief Personnel Officer & General Counsel of SIM-USA, who informed church members and the community of the tragic event. The details of the incident remain unclear as investigations continue. Church leaders have assured the congregation that they are in contact with Shroyer’s wife, Jackie, and are providing support to her and their five children during this profoundly difficult time.
The church expressed its sorrow and solidarity with the Shroyer family, while also honoring Beau’s life, which was devoted to ministry. “Even in their shock and grief, they are standing strong in their faith,” said church representatives. “Beau’s life was spent sharing hope with those in need, and he gave his all to reflect God’s love.”
Support for Jackie Shroyer and her family has been evident, with church leaders encouraging compassion and patience during the challenging days ahead. Details on how the community can assist, along with arrangements for a service to honor Beau’s life, are expected to be shared in the coming days.
The church is asking the community to hold Jackie, their children—Bella, Avery, Oakley, Iva, and Eden—and the entire family in prayer, that they may feel surrounded by comfort and love during this time.
The Shroyer family left Detroit Lakes to become fulltime missionaries in Angola in 2021. Beau previously worked for the Detroit Lakes Police Department, as well as had a realty business. The Shroyers were back stateside over the summer, speaking at local churches and organizations in Detroit Lakes, Long Prairie and Park Rapids.
