Brainerd Man Arrested in Fatal Shooting and Alleged Abduction Incident

Police

BRAINERD, MINN (KWAD) — Early Friday, Nov. 1, authorities arrested a 35-year-old Brainerd man in connection with a shooting death and the alleged abduction of five people from a residence northeast of Brainerd.

Around 1:50 a.m., Crow Wing County sheriff’s deputies responded to reports of a shooting on Loerch Road in Oak Law Township, located east of Brainerd. Upon arrival, deputies discovered 62-year-old Lyle Maske, of Brainerd, deceased from an apparent gunshot wound.

Investigators quickly identified Chad Aanerud as a suspect. Authorities allege that Aanerud forcibly took five people from a Loerch Road residence before fleeing the scene in a white 2017 Chrysler Pacifica. The sheriff’s office indicated the shooting and abduction are believed to be connected.

The abducted individuals included a 33-year-old woman and four minors, aged 14, 11, 7, and 3.

At about 6:30 a.m. on Friday, an Amber Alert was issued, providing information about the suspect and vehicle.

Approximately 45 minutes later, law enforcement located and stopped the vehicle in Morrison County. Aanerud was taken into custody without incident, and all five individuals were found unharmed.

“This is an active investigation, and more details will be released as they are known,” the sheriff’s office stated in a release.
