Alexandria’s Grayson Grove Staying with the Gophers Under New Coach Niko Medved

Minnesota Golden Gophers Basketball

University of Minnesota forward Grayson Grove has announced his decision to remain with the Gophers, committing to play for newly hired head coach Niko Medved.

Grove, a 6-foot-9 forward from Alexandria, redshirted his freshman season and still has four years of eligibility remaining. His decision to stay follows that of guard Isaac Asuma, another key Minnesota talent who reaffirmed his commitment to the program despite the coaching transition from Ben Johnson to Medved.

During his high school career, Grove was a standout despite missing part of his senior season due to injury. In 16 games, he averaged 16.4 points and 7.3 rebounds per game. As a junior, he was even more dominant, putting up 20 points and 8.2 rebounds per contest. Ranked as the No. 9 senior in Minnesota’s 2024 class by 247Sports, Grove was part of a stacked recruiting class that included top-ranked Jackson McAndrew (now at Creighton) and second-ranked Asuma.

The Gophers’ 2024-25 roster continues to take shape. While Frank Mitchell has committed to St. Bonaventure, and Kadyn Betts and Tyler Cochran have entered the transfer portal, decisions are still pending from Brennan Rigsby, Erick Reader, and Max Sheridan.
