Yelloh, formerly Schwan’s Home Delivery, announced on Monday that it will be shutting down in November, ending its 72-year legacy in the food delivery industry.
This decision follows a significant downsizing last year, when the Marshall, Minnesota-based company closed 90 delivery centers and cut 750 jobs, scaling back its services to just 18 states.
In a statement, company officials pointed to “insurmountable business challenges” as the reason for the closure.
Board member Michael Ziebell emphasized the difficulties the company faced, saying, “The Yelloh team has worked tirelessly against external obstacles such as nationwide staffing shortages and severe food supply chain disruptions caused by the pandemic. Coupled with shifts in consumer behavior and mounting competitive pressures that have been intensifying for over two decades, it became extremely hard to stay successful.”
Founded in 1952 in Marshall, Yelloh was a trailblazer in frozen food home delivery and built the largest fleet of freezer trucks in the country.
Ziebell, who has been with the company for over 22 years before rejoining the board, expressed deep sadness over the decision, saying, “It’s heartbreaking to see this business, which supported millions of families and employed thousands, come to the end of its life cycle. Our focus now is on supporting our employees through this transition.”
The last day for customers to place orders with Yelloh will be Friday, November 8.
