WADENA, Minn. — Veterans will be honored Thursday with a program from one local school. Along with an extra gesture to serve those who have served our country.
The Wadena-Deer Creek Middle/High School is going to hold their annual Veterans Day program on tomorrow at the school to honor service men and women in the area.
Veterans from across the region are encouraged to attend the program, which starts at 9:30 a.m. at the WDC Middle/High School Gym on November 10. In addition to the program, there will also be a free breakfast for veterans and their spouse from 8:15-9:15 a.m. at the school. The meal will be served by WDC Student Council members.
WDC announced Wednesday that the program’s keynote speaker will be Ken Schmitz of Verndale, whose military career began in 1975 and ended in 2013. Mr. Schmitz was born in South St Paul and moved to rural Verndale at the age of six years old. He grew up on a dairy farm north of Verndale, attending the Verndale school and graduating in 1976. He joined the Wadena unit of the Minnesota Army National Guard on the delayed entry program in 1975.
More information on the event can be found on WDC school’s Facebook page.
