ST. PAUL, Minn.– Over the weekend, the best high school wrestlers in Minnesota met at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul for the individual state wrestling tournament.
A couple local wrestlers left as champions in their respective classes. Ethan Hendrickson of United North Central was the champion of Class “A” in the 145 weight class and Anthony Sykora of West Central Area/Ashby/Brandon-Evansville came out on top in 170 weight bracket in the Class “A” tournament.
This year also featured the inaugural girls individual wrestling tournament. Madelyn Gallant of Wadena-Deer Creek placed fourth in the 138 weight class. Abby Ervasti of Bertha-Hewitt-Verndale-Parkers Prairie made it to the championship match and finished with second place honors in the 145 weight class.
